We have just received another world first at CRRC. Our collaborators at the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) have generously provided us with a touch sensitive fingertip. The fingertip is the same model that is used on the iCub robot, but was delivered as a stand-alone prototype. We have integrated it on one of our Nao robots, producing the first ever Nao robot with a touch sensitive finger. This combo will be crucial in completing our work on tactile gesture production for the ROBOSKIN project.

CRRC took a Nao robot to the Royal Institution to help Professor Bruce Hood from the University of Bristol illustrate robot intelligence to more than two million viewers during the Christmas Lectures 2011! The lectures were initiated by Michael Faraday in 1825 and has in modern times been an annual televised event. The 2011 lectures were shown on both BBC4 and BBC2. The title of the three lectures overall was ‘Meet Your Brain’. The 3rd lecture entitled ‘Are you thinking what I’m thinking’, with us in it, can now be seen online.
